Our approach to farming

At Stowe Heights, we're dedicated to sustainable farming practices, following regenerative and ecological principles every step of the way. We aim to produce high quality, nutrient dense food whilst improving our farm ecology and biodiversity. That means we use reduced tillage methods and loads of our own compost to improve our soil biology as much as possible. Our little helpers are the billions of soil organisms that create our fertility. The last thing we want to do is kill them so we are pesticide free. We don’t use any synthetic chemicals and we carefully select our seed suppliers to ensure the best tasting and healthiest veg we can.

We source and rear our traditional breed birds, raising them on farm and in our pastures as soon as they are old enough. Our flocks enjoy home milled feed including wheat, barley and beans sourced from our local farming friends. We move the birds regularly which benefits their health and the health of our soil.

Jacobs are a traditional sheep breed, they grow slowly which creates wonderful flavourful meat, high quality wool and horns. Their horns are used by a local stick maker known for the exceptional quality of his walking sticks (www.shiresticks.com). The sheepskins are tanned on farm by us and also available to purchase.
